OLD BUSINESS:

COMMEMORATIVE BRICK PROJECT

Sue Voros reported another set of bricks has been delivered and is ready to be put in place at the park.  She will get in touch with Public Works and hopes to take some pictures of them working on the project for the newspaper and possibly the website.

GREEN BRANCH PARK

Jeff Ridgway reported that regular maintenance at Green Branch has been completed.  The game fields are being watered every other day.  Walt Wenner reported that football practice fields still have some holes but the game fields are much better.

ODD FELLOWS HALL

Jeff Ridgway reported construction at the facility is moving ahead of schedule.  Outer shell is completed and elevator being worked on.  All work is being funded with $400,000.00 grant to make the building ADA accessible.  If all goes as scheduled groups of up to fifty might be able to use the facility as soon as September.  Once fire issues are corrected larger groups will be able to use the facility.

FUNDING FOR SPORTS ORGANIZATIONS

Kate Harrison has copies of invoices from the basketball association.  Kate reported that she has a meeting with Mr. Berman to discuss billing practices and she will contact Ronald Cuff who is president of the wrestling program to see if he is interested in attending the meeting as well.  At the meeting they will address billing sports groups for use of the school as well as discuss some insurance solutions.   Andy Simpkins and Kate had discussed the idea of organizations combining funds and looking into group insurance possibilities.  From reviewing bills from the school for wrestling and basketball it appears sometimes more than one group is being charged for using the school at the same time.  Members of the committee commented they were under the impression groups were only charged for use/custodial services if the staff was needed when they were not normally scheduled.  Kate Harrison thanked the committee for thinking of the basketball program and their financial needs.

NEW BUSINESS:

PARK REQUESTS

On a motion made by Sue Voros and seconded by Walt Wenner, request to use Norma Recreation Center by Risea Rodgers was approved.

VOTE:  ALL IN FAVOR

PITTSGROVE DAY

Linda DuBois reported she has already started working on Pittsgrove Day 2006.  One thing she needs to get some quick input on is the amusements.  Parvin State Park Appreciation Committee is willing to use contacts they have to provide carnival type rides at no cost to the township.  Patrons would be charged for the rides and the pricing would be similar to pricing of past years.  All proceeds would go directly to the Parvin State Park Appreciation Committee.  In the past any proceeds made from the rides were used to help offset the cost of the rides that is paid up front (approximately $6,000.00).  PSPAC has insurance that would cover the event.  Kathy Shelton expressed concern over pricing since many families look forward to Pittsgrove Day as an affordable alternative to normal type carnivals.  Audrey Mavroff commented that using this difference company might provide more control over who is going on rides without paying.  Kate Harrison thought might be a good idea since the rides might appeal to older children and adults rather than just the very young children.  Linda DuBois agreed to get more detailed information on the proposal and provide it to the committee for their review.  The idea will be revisited at the September 12th meeting after the members have had time to review the information.

There being no further business on a motion by Audrey Mavroff and seconded by Risea Rodgers, the meeting was adjourned at 8:45pm.

Respectfully submitted,

Donna Metzger, Secretary

Recreation Advisory Committee
