OLD BUSINESS:
PITTSGROVE DAY
Linda DuBois had notified
the secretary she would be unable to attend due to a prior commitment and had
provided a report to be read by the committee regarding Pittsgrove Day. Walt
Wenner wanted to thank Linda for a wonderful job as Chairperson of Pittsgrove
Day. All members of the committee
agreed she did a terrific job. Everyone had positive feedback on all aspects of
the event with the exception of a few residents mentioning they had liked
fireworks better in past years. In her report Linda DuBois had indicated she
would be wiling to be Chairperson of the event in the future. On a Motion made
by Walt Wenner and seconded by Audrey Mavroff, Linda DuBois was named
chairperson of Pittsgrove Day 2006
VOTE: ALL IN FAVOR
ODDFELLOWS HALL
Jeff Ridgway reported
construction of an addition as well as renovations to the existing building
have begun and are moving along. The township
hopes the project will be completed by end of September. Bruce Ricards inquired if the Recreation
Committee would be involved in requests for use of the facility and Jeff
Ridgway indicated it would most likely be handled much like park requests are.
NEW BUSINESS:
PARK REQUESTS
On a
motion made by Sue Voros and seconded
by Risea Rodgers, requests to use Green Branch Park by Midget Football and
Cadle, Deer Pen Park by O’Neill, Smith, Hoban and Hughes were approved.
VOTE: ALL IN FAVOR
PITTSGROVE MIDGET WRESTLING
Ralph
Padilla inquired if supporting the wrestling program was something done in the
past. Jeff Ridgway indicated that it
has been done the last few years since no facililites are provided for this
program such as the parks are for football and soccer. The secretary explained that the wrestling
program always sends a request for funding to help offset fees associated with
using the school prior to the budget being submitted and a line item has been
put in for $1000.00 for this purpose.
Ralph questioned why the same consideration is not given to other
programs in the same position such as basketball. Audrey Mavroff and Sue Voros
both mentioned that wrestling does give back to the community by sending the
kids to wrestling camp, buying jackets and the banquet they have every year
that includes the high school wrestlers not just the township program. Bruce Ricards commented there is no question
that both programs are positive for the children and both equally worthy of
helping. Walt Wenner inquired why the school charges for support staff when
they are normally at the school in the evening anyhow and are all groups billed
the same fees even if the events are going on simutaniously at the school. Upon reviewing the invoices provided by
wrestling a request was made to obtain the same from basketball so all invoices
could be reviewed and considered for possible financial assistance. The secretary will contact Kate Harrison to
see if she can provide those. On a
motion by Walt Wenner and seconded by Audrey Mavroff, approval was given to
send $800.00 to wrestling to help offset costs with the condition that after
review of basketball invoicing another $200.00 could be sent.
VOTE: ALL IN FAVOR
There being no further business on a motion by Audrey Mavroff and
seconded by Risea Rodgers, the meeting was adjourned at 8:45pm.
Respectfully submitted,
Donna Metzger, Secretary
Recreation Advisory Committee
