RECREATION ADVISORY COMMITTEE

MINUTES

MAY 2, 2005

 

The Recreation Advisory Committee held it’s regularly scheduled meeting in the Pittsgrove Municipal Building on May 2, 2005.

 

Members present were Bruce Ricards, Audrey Mavroff, Kate Harrison and Fiore Copare. Alternate members present were Sue Voros, Ralph Padilla and Walt Wenner. Sub committee members in attendance were Linda DuBois and Jeff Ridgway. Harry Snyder was in the audience.

 

CALL MEETING TO ORDER

BruceRicards called the meeting to order at 8:05pm.with salute to the flag and the reading of the Sunshine Law.

 

APPROVAL OF MINUTES FROM THE APRIL 4, 2005 MEETING

On a motion made by Audrey Mavroff and seconded by Kate Harrison, the aforementioned minutes were approved as submitted.

VOTE:  ALL IN FAVOR

 

OLD BUSINESS:

 

MAINTENANCE AT GREEN BRANCH / DEER PEN AND UNITY PARKS

Jeff Ridgway reported maintenance at the parks is running smoothly.  Green Branch Park has been fertilized 100% and work is progressing on the parking lots to get them leveled.

 

PITTSGROVE DAY

Linda DuBois reported Pittsgrove Day is coming together.  Donations and participation fees have been coming in. Harry Snyder reported helicopter rides are in place and they are working on possible hot air balloon rides.  Mr. Snyder will contact Mr. Wayne Carter who will let the veterans know the schedule for the day and invite veterans to attend. He has scheduled a full day of entertainment on the stages at the park.  He is making sure all paperwork is in place for fireworks. Walt Wenner told the committee he has a group of boys who can assist with trash pick up after 3:00pm that day.  Linda DuBois stressed importance of volunteers for the day of the event to help with parking, information booth and ride ticket sales.  Parvin State park has arranged to have Clysdale Horse drawn carriage rides will be conducted at Parvin State Park. 

 

NEW BUSINESS:

 

PARK REQUESTS

On a motion made by Fiore Copare and seconded by Kate Harrison, requests to use Green Branch Park by Vineland Mennonite Church for school picnic was approved.

VOTE:  ALL IN FAVOR

 

On a motion by Kate Harrison and seconded by Sue Voros, request to use baseball field # #4 at Green Branch park on Monday and Friday nights by Elmer Aces was approved.

VOTE:   ALL IN FAVOR

 

On a motion by Kate Harrison and seconded by Sue Voros, request to use baseball field #4 by the Pittsgrove Pumas was approved with the stipulation only to be used on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. Request to use field on Wednesday, Friday and Sunday was not approved due to prior approvals granted to other teams.  Members of the committee stated they hoped this would alleviate any potential conflicts between Mr. Parella and coaches of other teams.

 

Kate Harrison wanted to inform the committee that the 7th and 8th grade Pittsgrove Township Varsity Travel Girls Basketball Team had won a championship.  Kate said the team did a great job.

 

Ralph Padilla informed the committee that Delaware River Bay Authority has a website (DRBA.ORG) that is a good site for non profit organizations solicitations.

 

There being no further business on a motion by Kate Harrison and seconded by Audrey Mavroff, the meeting was adjourned at 8:55pm.
